Q: What are the challenges you face on your journey to achieving your professional goals?
A: “Being different” has always been both a challenge and an advantage for me. On one hand, not following the conventional path requires constant searching and examining new directions. On the other hand, it creates space to be myself and to respect others who wish to be themselves.
Q: What is your source of strength as a community rabbi?
A: Many years of experience in being “different”; a personal journey that serves as both experience and example of individual exploration; the ability to embrace otherness; the capacity to make ancient knowledge relevant; and extensive familiarity with the Jewish bookshelf.
Q: What are the greatest opportunities that exist for your community?
A: The current political situation has awakened in many people a desire to return to the Jewish bookshelf—with a critical eye, yet with a deep yearning to get to know, adopt, and learn from an ancient tradition.
