Israel Chief Executive Officer
Shira has spent the better part of the last two decades deeply immersed in the intensive study of classical rabbinic texts.
She is a graduate of the prestigious Ohr Torah Stone’s Susi Bradfield Women’s Institute of Halakhic Leadership (Kolel Deah) where she earned her ordination as a Halachic authority. She is also a graduate of the Mandel Program for Leadership in Jewish Culture. Five years ago, the community of Shirat HaTamar in Efrat chose Shira as their first spiritual leader. With this appointment, Shira became the first Orthodox woman in Israeli history to be chosen by her community to serve as the sole spiritual leader of the community. Rabbanit Mirili Mirvis has helped lead Shirat HaTamar through a period of vitality and growth, serving diverse parts of her neighborhood in Efrat. Over these last five years, Shira was an active Honey Fellow.
But like many Israelis, October 7 and the subsequent war has changed Rabbanit Shira. In her own words:
“October 7th and the war have shaken me to my core. I now feel an urgent calling to help build communities in Israel that open doors for more Israelis to explore Judaism and support one another. The Honey Foundation has transformed the way I see community, and the opportunity to help others benefit as I have is a dream role for me.”
After October 7, Shira enlisted in the reserves of the IDF and now serves on a team of casualty notification officers working with bereaved family members.
Having left the walls of the Academy, Rabbanit Mirili Mirvis has resolved to focus her many talents on helping other spiritual leaders build vibrant, welcoming, and resilient Jewish communities across Israel.
Jewish community, inclusivity and the power of Jewish learning to offer inspiration and healing have always been core to Shira’s world view. As Israel CEO, she will bring these gifts to countless Israelis.
